design inspiration

One of the first knitted patterns I ever made was a tank top in light pink cotton yarn. I felt such a sense of accomplishment when I finished that project that the impression stuck with me. When designing pieces for this book, I was inspired to create my own tank top pattern. I wanted something light and airy for summertime, just like my pink cotton one. I also wanted it to have a simple, traditional fit. In thinking about adding something extra-special to the design, I turned to all of the current ombréd designs that I’d been seeing. I decided to dye the finished piece to achieve that same beautiful fading effect. I had never hand-dyed yarn before, so I did a lot of research. I am a huge fan of color, so the visual idea of a bright dye running down a stark white tank top got me excited about designing this unique piece.
